What am I covered for?

We will come to your assistance in the event of any mechanical or electrical breakdown, puncture of road tyres, lost or misplaced keys, flat battery, having no fuel or mis-fuelling.

If you are a RecoverMe Standard or Standard+ member then:

  • If we cannot fix the problem at the roadside, we will transport the vehicle to a local garage of your choice within 15 miles of the breakdown location.
  • You have the option on scene to secure a journey of more than 15 miles by making a payment for the additional mileage at a rate of £1.12p per mile.
  • If you are more than 50 miles from home we will provide a replacement car.
  • The cost of rectifying the problem(s) is not covered.

If you are a RecoverMe Get You Home member then:

  • If we cannot fix the problem at the roadside, we will transport you and your vehicle and passengers (up to four) to a repairer of your choice, or alternatively transport you and your motorcycle and passengers (up to four) to your home location.
  • The cost of rectifying the problem(s) is not covered.

If you are a RecoverMe Motorcycle member then:

  • If we cannot fix the problem at the roadside, we will transport you and your motorcycle and passenger (if applicable) to a local motorcycle repairer of your choice, or alternatively transport you and your motorcycle and passenger (if applicable) to your home location.
  • The cost of rectifying the problem(s) is not covered.
What vehicles do you cover?
We cover all vehicles under 3.5 tonnes as long as they are registered as a private vehicle with the DVLA.
How many call outs are covered per year?
You are covered for up to 4 call outs a year.
Do you have national coverage?
Yes, we have the biggest managed network of breakdown operators in the country with over 830 locations across the United Kingdom.
Do you cover Northern Ireland?
Yes, we do operate in Northern Ireland.
Do you cover the Isle of Wight?
Yes, we do cover the Isle of Wight.
Do you cover flat batteries?
Yes, we will come to your aid if you have a flat battery and try to jump start you but the cost of a replacement battery is not covered.
Do you have a geographical number to call for recovery?
Yes, we appreciate that calls from mobiles on free phone 0800 numbers aren't at all free on some mobile networks, so as an alternative please use 01604 496821.
Is my partners or other vehicle covered?
No, we cover the car which is registered with us, rather than the driver, meaning that a family sharing one car only needs one membership.
Do you have a 'multi car' option?
No, not at present we do not have a membership which covers more than one vehicle, however, when you register your first vehicle with RecoverMe, your Welcome E-Mail will include a link back to the RecoverMe website and allow you to purchase additional memberships for a reduced price. This link which (currently) offers a £5 reduction from the full membership can be used to register your 2nd / 3rd or even 4th vehicle in your household. If the current membership for that vehicle isn't ready to be renewed yet, simply save the e-mail and use it when it is.
Do you have a European cover option?
No, not at present, but we do have contacts in Europe who will be able to act on our behalf, so if you're unlucky enough to need assistance we can help, although the recovery back to the UK will be chargeable.
What happens if I am involved in an accident?
Though damage due to an accident is not covered under this breakdown agreement it would normally be covered under an insurance claim, RecoverMe can arrange to recover you following an accident, vandalism, theft, attempted theft, or fire, on production of proof of insurance cover. You may be responsible for any costs involved should we be unable to receive payment from your motor insurer on presenting our invoice to them for these costs (e.g. where you do not submit a claim to your motor insurer or have a third party only policy).
What happens if I change my car?
If you change your registered vehicle throughout your membership, then all we ask is that you let us know what is your new vehicle registration number. You can use the 'Contact Us' form here to let us know your current vehicle registration, your new vehicle registration and your membership numbers and we will do the rest.
If I sell my vehicle, can I transfer cover to the new owner?
Yes, If you sell your registered vehicle and would like to transfer membership to the new owner you can, please let us know by using the 'Contact Us' form here to let us know your current vehicle registration, your membership number, the e-mail address and name and address of the new owner.
Do you always provide a replacement car?
A Hire Car will be provided subject to availability for a maximum of 72 hours with our Standard & Standard Plus memberships, in one of the two following scenarios:

  • where a repair cannot be undertaken on the day of the Breakdown and where the Owner/Driver lives more than 50 miles from the Agent providing the Breakdown Solution;
  • or where the Breakdown Solution or Permanent Repair (in the event that RecoverMe’s Agent has been instructed to carry out the Permanent Repair) has been delayed, for example for the provision of parts

The Owner/Driver will contract directly with the Hire Company and will comply with their terms and conditions of hire and will be responsible for fuel costs of the Hire Car and any excess liability incurred during the period of hire, including any delivery or collection costs where this service is requested by the member.

The Hire Car will not be provided in the following scenarios:

  • where the Registered Vehicle is being repaired under a manufacturer’s/third party warranty;
  • where the Registered Vehicle is a light commercial vehicle


It should be noted that the provision of a hire car in the school holiday periods of Christmas, Easter and summer, and most particularly during Bank Holiday weekends, is often extremely limited

Where a hire car is unavailable, we may decide to offer emergency overnight accommodation for which we will pay a maximum of £40.00 for the owner/driver, and where the vehicle is carrying passengers, we will pay a maximum of £40.00 per person for up to four additional passengers.

A maximum of one nights emergency accommodation per incident applies. The provision of emergency accommodation may be on a claim / pay basis, which means that the member must initially pay the hotel costs and claim back the costs directly from us. We will only reimburse these costs when we are in possession of a valid receipt / invoice.

A Hire Car is not provided to RecoverMe Get You Home or Motorcycle members.
Are the repairs covered as well?
No, the cost of any parts and repair are the responsibility of the Owner/Driver. We provide a 12 month guarantee on all parts we replace.
Am I covered if put the wrong fuel in the car?
Yes, we will recover you if you put the wrong fuel in your vehicle. However, if the car has been driven there may be significant damage to the engine parts that can be costly and are not covered in the breakdown cover. You can take out RecoverMe Standard Plus membership for a small additional charge, or our Get You Home membership, both which will contribute up to £1,000 to the cost of rectifying any engine damage.
Is there an age limit on vehicles covered?

Yes:

  • for cars, your vehicle must be under 12 years old.
  • for a light commercial vehicle, your vehicle must be under 8 years old.
  • for motorcycles, your vehicle must be under 12 years old.

For a small added membership fee (age enhancement), the above limits can be lifted to provide cover for older vehicles.

The following age enhancement rates will allow you to become a member of RecoverMe for our Standard & Standard Plus memberships;

  • for cars between 12 years and 17 years of age - £13.00
  • for cars between 17 years and 20 years of age - £24.00
  • for light commercial vehicles between 8 years and 13 years of age - £13.00
  • for light commercial vehicles between 13 years and 17 years of age - £24.00


for our Get You Home memberships, they are;

  • for cars between 12 years and 17 years of age - £20.00
  • for cars between 17 years and 20 years of age - £38.00
  • for light commercial vehicles between 8 years and 13 years of age - £20.00
  • for light commercial vehicles between 13 years and 17 years of age - £38.00


and for our Motorcycle memberships, they are;

  • for motorcycles between 12 years and 20 years of age - £26.50


If your vehicle age is identified as falling into any of these age bands when you join RecoverMe our sign up forms will advise you, ask you to confirm the age enhancement, and that you wish to continue.

Does cover start immediately?
Your Breakdown membership starts at midnight on the date you select when you first join RecoverMe. However, cover does not come into force for 24 hrs or for 24 hrs after any amendment is made to the vehicle details i.e. change of vehicle.
How do I contact you?
Our control room breakdown number is 0800 022 4411 and there will always be someone there 24/7/365. You can also download our app to your smartphone so the number you need is always to hand.
How long will it take to get to me if I break down?
We aim to be with you in under 45 minutes. We give priority to single females and families and will always let you know an arrival time and keep you updated whilst you wait.
What happens if my MOT or tax have expired?
Vehicles without an appropriate current MOT certificate where applicable, and a valid road fund licence at the time of the Breakdown are not covered.
Will you let a family or friend know I am alright if I breakdown?
Yes, we will help you contact others to explain the reason for your delay via our message relay service while you wait for your vehicle to be recovered or repaired.
I have changed my mind, can I cancel my membership?
Yes, providing that you cancel your membership within 14 days of purchasing your RecoverMe membership, and you have not requested assistance (we have not provided a breakdown or recovery service to you), then you can cancel and we will give you a full refund. If you wish to cancel, then please state so using the 'Contact Us' form here and remember to include your membership number.
